Lucia has further speciality interest in working with people with health conditions that might be impacting on their mental health. She has previously worked within a busy public hospital in Melbourne in the outpatient rehabilitation service working with people with various health issues including heart disease/cardiac events, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, those at end of life. She also worked as the Renal psychologist providing specialist care to patients with kidney disease and renal failure.
Lucia understands how these health issues increase the risk for experiencing depression, anxiety, and other forms of psychological distress [e.g., grief/loss, relationship problems, sleep disturbance, adjustment issues], and helped pave the way for collaborative therapy in adjusting to living alongside a chronic health condition.
Lucia is not currently seeing clients under Work Cover and TAC or those who need medical reports to go to a third party (e.g., court).
What to Expect
Lucia accepts enquires via phone or email (see details below). Lucia typically prefers to engage prospective clients in a free 15-minute intake call to gauge suitability for a service and allow clients to ask any questions. From there, Lucia will arrange a time to meet (either face-to-face or via telehealth) and engages her client in an assessment, which can take between one and two sessions, depending on the complexity and chronicity of the difficulties. Feedback is then shared regarding impressions of the presenting difficulties and is followed by a collaborative discussion about the plan for treatment.
Lucia is experienced with delivering various evidence-based interventions, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness based interventions.
Lucia also values the importance of core therapeutic skills, such as developing a strong therapeutic alliance based on trust and empathy as she feels this allows clients to feel comfortable in sharing and working through their concerns.
